Sometimes, with the help of volunteer transcribers, we are blessed to be able to share Percy Gutteridge’s messages in written form.  So it is with the most recent message from our Grains from Gutteridge podcast.  Percy’s daughter-in-law (one might better describe her as an “adopted daughter”), Ann Gutteridge, labored long and lovingly to give us a transcript of Our Great Savior God, which Denise and I have edited and annotated.

You’ll find the article, Our Great Savior God, over at the FinestOfTheWheat.org website, where Ann also contributed another transcript for one of last year’s articles–The Supernatural Character of New Testament Christianity.

Outtake of Psalm 8:4 -- What is man, that You take thought of him?Show Notes for Kernels of Wheat Episode 002: 1 John 1:1-4

Teaching and Bible study notes by Jim Kerwin

Review from last week:

  • Fellowship and koinonia.
  • How would your life be different if you lived in unbroken, moment-by-moment fellowship with the living God?

What was God’s original intention?  What was His end-goal?

  • Repentance, confession, salvation, New Birth, sanctification, filling with the Spirit–all are necessary, all are commanded, but all are remedial and corrective in nature.
  • What was God’s intention for us if there had been no Fall, no sin?

King David asked the right question: [click to continue…]

Show Notes for Grains from Gutteridge Episode #2:
Our Great Savior God, a message by Pastor Percy Gutteridge

Grains from Gutteridge Cover ArtIn this message titled Our Great Saviour God, Pastor Percy Gutteridge draws from Titus 2:13 and unfolds our Lord Jesus as the Great Savior God in His works of Creation. Viewing His handiwork, whether in the vastness of the multiplied millions of galaxies in the universe or in the tiniest lifeform of an amoeba, we stand in awe of His power and wisdom when we consider the Gospel’s declaration: “All things were made by Him….” [click to continue…]

Words We Think We Know: "Eternal Life" & "Fellowship"

Teaching and Bible study notes by Jim Kerwin

Author: Anonymous, but confirmed to be the Apostle John based on historical testimony of the early church and internal evidence (uses of words like Logos, beginning, “eternal life,” style similarity, etc.). Never names himself in his Gospel (“the disciple Jesus loved”) or his three Epistles (the “elder” or “old man” in 2 & 3 John)

Date: a.d. 85-95 (same range as all the Johannine scriptures, including Revelation)

Some of the focuses of the letter:

  • What is God’s ultimate intention for us?
  • What is eternal life?
  • What is a true believer’s relationship with God?  How do we walk in and deepen the relationship?
  • What are the no-compromise characteristics of someone who is truly born of God?
  • How do we [click to continue…]

Jerry and Dar Johnson of Christian Concourse Ministries

Three days ago I received a note from Jerry Johnson, a local minister friend, who holds his ministerial credentials with the Evangelical Church Alliance International, the same group through which I am currently ordained. He was kind enough to create a link from his website, ChristianConcourse.org, to the Powerful Poetry page on our original site, FinestOfTheWheat.org. (Thanks, Jerry!)

That got me to thinking about two reasons why you might want to [click to continue…]

Show Notes for Grains from Gutteridge Podcast Episode #1:
From Desolation to Paradise, a message by Pastor Percy Gutteridge

Photo of Rev. Percy Gutteridge

Percy Gutteridge

Pastor Percy Gutteridge was a Bible teacher par excellence, and a spiritual father and mentor to many, including me. So for almost nine years it has been the special privilege of FinestOfTheWheat.org and now KernelsOfWheat.com to be the exclusive source of Pastor Gutteridge’s messages, both in print and in audio format.

This message, From Desolation to Paradise, comes from Pastor’s series God in Creation and Providence. Concerned about the lack of true revival, and the dubious claims of human-generated revivals, this message looks at two passages—Genesis 2:1-17 and Ezekiel 36:25-38—to examine God’s principles of true, spiritual revival.

Grains from Gutteridge will be [click to continue…]
